In the heart of the Foggian countryside stands Le Cruste, a historical and captivating villa dating back to the late 18th century, located approximately 3 km from Lucera, a charming Federician town.

Le Cruste served as the countryside residence of Alfonso de Peppo, Lucera's mayor and podestà, from 1855. Alfonso was a scion of one of the city's most illustrious families. Later, the villa passed into the hands of Ottavio, Alfonso's nephew, an ambassador in Ankara, and a poet who penned a delicate and nostalgic sonnet dedicated to the ancient family estate and the native land, a soothing haven for the soul and a safe harbor. The era of the ancient Lucerine family dwelling at Le Cruste came to a close with Don Federico de Peppo, who relocated to Rome to reunite with his loved ones. In 1997, Don Federico transferred the estate to its current owner, who took the reins and undertook a splendid renovation project.

Today, Le Cruste has become an exclusive venue for hosting special events. Boasting six finely furnished bedrooms, each with ten ensuite bathrooms, three panoramic terraces, and a caretaker's lodge, the villa stands within the embrace of nine hectares of level land, featuring wheat fields, an olive grove, and almond trees. Le Cruste exudes the enchanting charm of a locus amoenus, where time's hands seem to stand still, and the heart is filled with joy.

Nestled in the locality that shares its name, the villa is immediately visible from the road, thanks to the presence of lofty towers adorning the majestic trapezoidal entrance portal. The diaphanous white facade is slightly veiled by tall trees, and an imposing electric gate surrounds the Italian-style garden encompassing the estate.

Stepping through the main entrance, a welcoming hall adorned with antique stools and an elegant late 19th-century toilet greets visitors. Dominating the center stage is a stately billiard table. Adjacent to the entrance area are two lounges with lunette vaults, tastefully furnished with sofas, armchairs, and exquisite furnishings. The ground floor is further complemented by two restrooms (male and female) and an industrial-type kitchen.

Ascending to the first floor, one discovers the grand representation hall spanning 40 square meters. Here, the shimmering floor, dating back to the 1940s, mesmerizes with its decorative tesserae featuring ornamental motifs from Vietri. Throughout the rest of the villa's approximately 1000 square meters of space, including the terraces, one encounters flooring designs of various formats and patterns crafted by the renowned firm "Tagina," bearing the signature of the fashion designer Laura Biagiotti. Noteworthy are the recent PVC wood-effect window fixtures with double glazing, adorned in an alpine green hue that strikingly contrasts with the villa's pristine white facade.

Ascending further, the upper floor accessible by an internal staircase, which also leads to the cellar, a place dedicated to tasting local delicacies and wines, houses the six bedrooms. Each bedroom is equipped with a safe and a bathroom with a shower. Each room, with its attached bathroom, possesses the unique quality of being distinct from the others, named according to its position within the villa, such as the "Baron's Suite," the most prestigious of them all. All bedrooms feature air conditioning and direct access to the terrace, the first of which also boasts a dramatic external staircase, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding park. From the other two terraces, one can admire the expanse of the Tavoliere delle Puglie.

The villa is equipped with a heating system located on the ground floor, utilizing two pellet stoves and a gas boiler, complemented by radiators throughout. All spaces are fitted with emergency lighting for added safety.

LUCERA:
Lucera, the Gateway to the Tavoliere delle Puglie, is an ancient Roman colony nestled atop three hills, located a mere 18 kilometers from Foggia. The city boasts impeccably preserved ancient remains, rendering it one of the most important bastions of classicity.

Within Lucera lies the amphitheater commissioned by Marco Vecilio Campo, a powerful Lucerine magistrate, prefect of the blacksmiths, and military tribune, who erected it at his own expense in honor of Octavian Augustus. The arena, once the site of gladiatorial combats and ferocious animal contests, now occupies the eastern part of the city and hosts captivating cultural performances during the summer months. However, it was during the Federician era that Lucera basked in remarkable splendor. The majestic fortress, the largest in Europe, built by Frederick II of Swabia, bears witness to the city's importance in the political designs of the Hohenstaufen Emperor. The fortress once served as a medieval village and a defensive stronghold, manned by Arab mercenaries who intermingled with the native population through marriage, leaving traces of a significant Muslim settlement commissioned by Frederick II throughout the historic center. These traces include minarets and domes adorned with distinctive Arabesque features, as well as the 14th-century cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, erected by Charles of Anjou, the Christian Emperor who put an end to the Saracen presence in the city.
