The history of the estate “Tenuta di Porta Medaglia and Donna Olimpia" dates back to the 14th century, it belonged to a noble family and it’s located on the outskirts of Rome close to the GRA motorway junction (only 4 Km). THE FARMHOUSE:
Recently renovated, the old farmhouse is divided into two floors covering a total area of approximately 380 square meters.
The first floor consists of hallway, study, one bedroom, five bathrooms and 2 large halls elegantly furnished in traditional rustic style with terracotta flooring, wooden ceiling with exposed beams and one fireplace in each of the halls which contribute to creating an elegant and warm environment. HISTORICAL FACTS:
The property is still known as “Tenuta di Porta Medaglia and Donna Olimpia” and in the past it was part of Tenuta della Falcognana, a larger estate of about 3000 hectares. The name derives from Donna Olimpia Riccardi, the daughter of Marquess Riccardi. It was a noble family from Florence who were the bankers of the Medici and the owners of the property for a long time beginning from the 16th century…
In 1295, it was ceded to the Monastery of San Sisto by the Church of S. Maria Nuova, granted permission of Pope Boniface IX to sell it. In 1427, during the papacy of Pope Martin V, it was sold by the Petrucci to the Colonna and then in 1432, by Orlando Colonna to Giacomo Cenci; it was at that time that part of the estate became known as PORZIA CENCI. At the end of the 19th century, the estate was sold to the Princes Boncompagni Ludovisi and then at the beginning of the last century, it became the property of the family who currently owns it.
